Ukraine Objects To Top Putin Aide's Visit To Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Plant

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has expressed a "strong protest" over a visit by one of Russian President Vladimir Putin's most powerful aides to the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. Sergei Kiriyenko, a Kremlin official responsible for overseeing Russia's domestic politics and a former head of the country's state nuclear corporation, discussed the safety of the plant during his visit, according to Vladimir Rogov, a Russian-installed local official. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on December 28 that the "illegal" action was another "gross violation of international law and the legislation of Ukraine."
