Sergei Kiriyenko, a Kremlin official responsible for overseeing Russia's domestic politics and a former head of the country's state nuclear corporation, discussed the safety of the plant during his visit, according to Vladimir Rogov, a Russian-installed local official. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on December 28 that the "illegal" action was another "gross violation of international law and the legislation of Ukraine."
